Farewell Regality Geocache
Farewell Regality
Congratulations on finding our Farewell Regality Geocache!
A Northumbrian song written by the great folk singer Terry Conway of Allendale. The song bids goodbye to the Regality of Hexhamshire, an ancient area of jurisdiction that governed the parishes of Hexham, Allendale and St John Lee. The Regality dates back to the Anglo-Saxons and eventually passed to Sir John Fenwick in 1632, who later died for the Jacobite cause. The lyrics sing of Rowley Burn, Whitley Mill and areas of County Durham, evoking the landscape and hospitality of the rural North-East. Nicky first heard this song as a child listening to Terry singing on market days in Hexham by the old Moot Hall. We wrote much of our first album in Northumberland at Burnlaw, near Allendale, and have had many years of great gigs in the local village hall.
